Nightmare Project, cannot export, mix, or render audio

Greetings programs.

I am a podcaster and recently recorded a podcast with two friends on my laptop, on version 2.3.0. I first noticed I was having trouble two days ago in the editing bay when I attempted to boost some background music audio with the equalizer. The status bar showed that it started the process, but froze about 20% in and stopped responding, thereby closing the effect loader. I kept trying to do this in smaller increments to no real avail.

Having given in that some background music audio will just have to be a little quieter than the rest, I decided to save my progress and export a first draft mp3. It started to, and then gave up approximately 10% the way in. At this point I was beyond frustrated and thought perhaps I should update to the most current version, which I did. I then attempted another export, which made it to 10% completion and then failed. I went at this for another 5 or 6 attempts before I sought assistance on this forum.

I am working on version 2.3.2, I am running on Windows 10, 64-bit. I have plenty of space on my laptop and see no earthly reason why this is the project that Audacity just refuses to run, seeing how I recorded another podcast backup just last Thursday (on the older version) with zero issue. I even sought similar threads and attempted to mix down the tracks to the same rate and the same failure kept occurring, 3 times in 30 seconds.

Do you know (or can you find out) which version you were using before?

Until we resolve this, don’t delete anything related to this project - don’t delete any backups or exported files or files that were imported into the project.

First, some questions for background information:

  1. Does the project play correctly all the way through?
  2. How many tracks are there in the project?
  3. How long is the project?
  4. What size is the project’s “_data” folder?
  5. Do you have a backup copy of the project?
  6. Do you have backup copies of the original recordings?
  7. Were all the tracks in the project recorded by you on your laptop? If not, please give details of where the audio came from.
  8. Do you have access to another computer?

Try saving the project with a new name (“Save Project As…”)
Did that complete?
If so, does it play correctly?
If so, are you able to export from it?
