newby - recording cd to Audacity 2.0.2 - pitch change prob

When recording a vocal track cd into audacity 2.0.2 and then changing pitch, usually ends up sounding choppy. Same whether from ITunes first or straight from my pa system cd player. I’m pretty new at this.

The current version of Audacity is 2.0.5 and is available here: http://audacityteam.org/download/

How are you changing the pitch?
What sort of audio is it and how much pitch change do you need?

I generally need to lower a song track 10 or maybe 20% - 2 or 3 half-steps. I am a baritone and it seems every cd song track will have the song in tenor, soprano and bass vocal range. Also, I do have 2.0.5 version of Audacity.

If you use Effect > Sliding Time Scale / Pitch Shift, there will be fewer artefacts than with Change Pitch and you won’t get unwanted length changes or gaps. But once you change pitch too far, it won’t be without some distortions.

If you don’t mind the tempo change you can use Change Speed instead.
