Newbie Here. How do I make it NOT add tracks?

I am using a Tascam us2000 and have it set to 8 inputs (I use 8 mics). Everything seems to work fine,I get a separate input for all 8 mics on separate tracks.When I stop and “rewind” to review some work and want to start recording where I left off, instead of doing that it adds 8 more tracks. Also is there a way to make sure mic 2 is always on track 2, mic 3 on track 3 etc. ?

Make sure you have all eight tracks selected, then hold SHIFT key on your keyboard and press Record (or press R on your keyboard). This is Append Record which records at the end of selected tracks.
