What’s the problem?

We have to build your world in our imagination to help you. The more information, the better.

A good start is the goal.

“I’m reading/presenting a story and I want to add background music.”

Koz

There are no patterns. On Audacity

Still not enough information.
You’ve still not said which version of Audacity you are using, or what you are trying to do, or what the problem is.

Audacity 2.xx windows. I,also have FFMpeg extracted. I,want to record my,voice using my backround music. Music, plays, but is distorted,on 1 song.Other, speed too fast.I,changed it ,to no avail. When,I 1st dowloaded audacity,i tested MIC,it worked. Now,red record button, doesn’t do anything TKS for any help Pat.

That’s strange, but just so we’ve got this straight -

One song is distorted but the speed is OK?
The other song isn’t distorted but it plays too fast?
And this is before you record your voice?

Do both of these files play OK in Windows Media Player?
What format are they (WAV, MP3, etc.)?

…We’ll probably have more questions for you

…In general, you need to lower the volume before mixing. Otherwise when you mix (your voice with the music) you can get distortion.

Audacity 2.xx windows.

The current version is 2.3.2

Make sure you’ve selected the correct Recording Device (the microphone built-into your laptop?).

I,also have FFMpeg extracted.

Good, but you may not need it. FFmpeg is needed to open or export certain formats.
