I recently started using audacity again after several years. I had a recording, wanted to save it. Told me I can’t in MP3, that I need to update the app.
I saved the finished project with all the stuff I did, did the update, opened the project, saved MP3. All good.
Today I wanted to work on another recording, but… I can’t! I can’t do the things I used to do and I’m really lost.
Basically, I used to do everything that’s in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYF5ytMDFpA
Now, there’s no hard limiter, can’t even find a plugin, it told me to download some ffmpeg (i don’t even understand what it is, but i did download it, search the library etc., still doesn’t work).
If anyone could help me, tell me how to do the stuff that’s in the video again, that would be really amazing. I’m not really good with tech and this used to be so easy, now i spent hours trying to figure it out and nothing… thank you so much.

I can’t watch the video right now, but of course they get out-of-date.

There is a Limiter with a hard-limit option. It should be listed in the bottom section of the effects list. If it’s not showing-up go tto Effect → Add/Remove Plug-ins and make sure it’s enabled.
It’s different from the old hard limiter and doesn’t distort the waveform. There are hard-clip and soft-clip options if that’s what you want.

FFmpeg is ONLY for importing/exporting a wide variety of formats. (You don’t need it for WAV or MP3.) If you are working with formats that need it, or if you just want a “more complete” Audacity install, download & run ffmpeg-win-2.2.2.exe to install it and you should be ready to go. (It should show-up under Libraries.
