Running Audacity v 2.4.2 on an HP z210 computer running Windows 7 pro.
In the Audacity set up I tried MME and there were no options displayed for Recording or playback.
I tried WASAPI and see attachment Audacity screen 1
I did all this before starting Firefox.
I started Firefox and started the web site
I clicked on the Monitoring bar. Nothing happened
I clicked on the record red button , nothing happened.
I checked the sound card drivers using the Audacity instructions. The drivers are standard Microsoft.
I clicked on the speaker icon in the lower right and clicked on recording devices. See Audacity screen 2 attachment
Questions:
Q1.) How do I tell Audacity which source to record from ? I am assuming it is recording from the microphone source. How to I tell Audacity to
record from Speakers (high definition Audio device)?
Q2.) What Audacity option did I not set correctly?
Q3.) What are your thoughts about connecting the speaker output of the computer to the line in input of the computer using a cable? If I do this
then what settngs in Audacity must i choose?
With WASAPI loopback the “audio stream” has to be started before you can record. It can be silence but “something” has to be playing. If you’re using a front-panel headphone connection you might need to select headphone-loopback instead of speakers-loopback.

That usually works but you need a Y-splitter to connect speakers (or headphones) at the same time. Of course you select line-in as your recording input. …Most laptops don’t have line-in and the mic-input is too sensitive (and it’s usually mono) but I believe your computer does have line-in. It’s usually color-coded blue.
Thank you for your prompt reply. I installed soundleech software, it cannot seem to find any input. I made sure sound was playing on the computer before starting soundleech. My guess is the sound drivers are the problem. When I get a chance I will download drivers from the HP site and see if they work.
