Needed help with recording with Audacity

Dear All,

I am experiencing some problem when recording using Audacity. When I play the recorded song after recording the quality is not good. I am using a microphone, and during recording the quality that comes through the speakers are really good. But when i play the recorded song the output I am getting is not so good. The voice level is going up and down.

It would be nice if I could get some help with this so that I get a good quality of sound.

Please tell us what version of Audacity you are using (all three numbers, see the pink panel at the top of the page).

What is the make and model number of the mic? Have you turned off Windows recording enhancements? These can be a source of volume fluctuation.

Are you recording one track over playback of previous Audacity tracks?

Are you recording Skype calls? If so there are special Skype recording applications that can do a better job than Audacity.
