Need method to record, as an interview, and then save?

Folks,
I have a basic headset I am using as part of my winamp broadcasting system. What I want to be able to do is record interviews and live voice into audacity and then export the file as an mp3 so i can load the file into my winamp and use in our broadcasts. I cannot get the recording to have inteligible volume at this point and am lost as to what to do here.

However, all I have been doing is plugging in my headset and recording. It does seem as if something is recording but the playback is virtually non-existant.

any and all help would be deeply appreciated…

Where is the person being interviewed?

The person would be interviewed live talking directly into the audacity recorderor mic…

OK. Let me read this back to you. You have a headset with earphones and a microphone. When you make a recording in Audacity, there are blue waves and the red recording meter bounces, but when you play it back after you press Stop, it’s silent?

Is it a USB headset? Can you hear the performance in the headphones? Sometimes Windows gets confused where to play the show in USB systems. Click on the playback settings in the Audacity toolbar (speaker symbol) and see where Audacity is trying to play the show.
