I have an older version of audacity
Trying to record bass to finger snaps. The bass when I’m recording has a big delay. Can that be fixed or even make it so I can’t hear the bass as I’m recording and only the finger snaps?
Sorry, I’m old and not very computer literate.
I know how to fix it after the fact but I want to either hear the bass in real time as I’m recording or not hear it at all as it records.
So you’re overdubbing. Playing a new performance live and recording it while listening to a backing track or something you recorded earlier?
Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Recording
Overdub and New Track should be selected. Playthrough should not.
That will stop your live performance from coming back to you late (latency). There’s no way to adjust that away with a setting. That’s computer internal delays.
There are methods of making a theatrically perfect show appear in your headphones during the performance, but they involve either fancy microphones, interfaces, or mixers.
For example, this is a Sampson G-Track microphone set up for overdubbing. No, I don’t expect anybody to use earbuds for a musical performance. They were handy and pretty for the picture.
Also, to achieve perfect overdubbing, there are settings and adjustments that need to be made.
Not hearing yourself in echo is pretty easy to fix.

Thanks, that worked perfectly
