Can you point me to a good reference to help remove distortion in recorded LP? I am also struggling to get the recording loud enough even with the recording volume all the way up in Audacity. Want to get to a recording quality that I can record to a CD. Is that possible?
Please tell us about your setup.
Do you have an old stereo that plays records and has “tape” outputs? Do you have a USB turntable? Etc.?
How are you connected to the computer? If you’re using an analog connection, do you have a computer with a line-input (usually color-coded blue on a regular soundcard)?

You can’t get “CD quality” 
But, you can accurately capture the vinyl sound, and probably make some improvement.
