I’ve had a crash in audacity and lost about 40 minutes, the recovery keeps failing due to an error saying line not well formed. I’ve looked into fixing it, but the aup file is lost. I have all the au files, and I’ve manually spliced things together before, but the naming system is completely changed and not intuitive. Just wondering if anyone has an idea. A sample of the names are as follows:
Any clues folks?
Chances of recovering a show without the AUP Project Manager is, let’s say “significantly reduced.” Those little snippets are not all sound and the ones that are sound alternate left and right. So missing one is pretty serious.

This is a better link to give if there is no AUP or autosave file: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Crash_Recovery#Automatic_recovery_tools .
If the automated recovery is failing then it is the autosave file (essentially a temporary AUP file which contains unsaved changes) which needs to be corrected for the line error.
Here is where the autosave file will be:
- Windows 2000/XP: Documents and SettingsApplication DataAudacityAutoSave
- Windows Vista/Windows 7/Windows 8: UsersAppDataRoamingAudacityAutoSave
If you cannot see the “Application Data” folder, show hidden files and folders thus: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-see-hidden-files-in-windows/ .
Have you searched your computer for the autosave or AUP file and looked in the Recycle Bin?
