My record button will not start recording

I’m ready to make new recordings for the book I am narrating and the record button does nothing when I click on it. I have deleted everything in the projects area by moving it all to external drive. What am I doing wrong or does this happen time to time? I also uninstalled and reinstalled the app.

Nothing happens? You’re not recording a flat line or anything?

Make sure you’ve selected the correct Recording Device. (Don’t select anything that says “loopback”.)

If you are on Windows you can check your microphone (or interface, etc.) to make sure Windows is getting a signal with Listen To This Device. (Audacity gets the audio from the operating system and drivers.)

I changed the recording device, I did have loop back on and I saw the movement, but when I tried to record, it picked nothing up.

Loopback records whatever is coming OUT of your soundcard. It’s usually only used to record streaming audio. (When you’re recording an analog input to your soundcard, loopback can sometimes create a feedback loop.)

One other quick thing to check. The recording volume slider is now “hidden” under the recording meters (and the playback slider is under the playback meters). If the recording slider is at zero you’ll record silence (a “flat line”).
