Multi-track recording

I dont know exactly how to explain it but when ever you record, it automaticly creates a new track, what i want is for when you record you can record anywhere on the timeline on a particular track, even if there is something before it, and where you can move any individual track like a grid.

track1:::-----a1-track one recorded-----------------------(a1 copy hypothetical)----------------------------------------------
track2:::------a2-track two also----->->->->->->->-------a3- recorded also----------------------------
track3:::---------------copy/paisted -a3-----------------------------------------------------------
track4:::---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Track5:::---------------------------------------------------------------------------

does this make any sence? where the recorded A1 is, maybe it would sound great where A3 also is, but I dont want to make a brand new track for A1copy, i want A1copy to be on track one also, but on the current audacity, it would lead to it either going from the exact end of the origional track 1 A1, and it would be impossible to move it without moving A1 origional, but what i want is for you to move A1 copy anywhere on the timeline and only “argue” with others on the track if you attempt a fade in/out. am i making any sence. i dont know how to program so i would be of no help programming it.

part two of what i would like

track1:::-----a1-track one recorded-----------------------(a1 copy hypothetical)----------------------------------------------
track2:::------a2-track two also----->->->->->->->-------a3- recorded also----------------------------
track3:::---------------copy/paisted -a3-----------------------------------------------------------
track4:::------------B1-(recorded from source 1)--------------------------------------------------------------
Track5:::------------B2-(recorded from source 2)--------------------------------------------------------------

B1 and B2 i would like to be able to record at the same time using Asio or WDm or a choice or combination of the two, from different sources at the same time, with the source options also being at the left end where it says “track this and that ect.”

part 3.
just like the volume fader that you can adjust, make the same track -4 Db at the 3 second mark then make it fade to -12 at the 56 second mark, I would think that it would be highly amazing if there was a similar concept for panning left and right, maybe even front and back if it isn’t to much trouble.

just some ideas i realy would love on here.

Why do you not want the new recording on a new track? If it is on a new track, then everything else that you are asking for can be done (independent level adjustment, positioning on the time line, etc…)
BTW, are you using Audacity 1.3.5? This handles multiple sound clips much better than version 1.2.6.

I moved this thread from the “Adding Features To Audacity” section to the Audio Processing section - as I believe Steve’s reply shows that Audacity 1.3.x can already do what is required - left in Audio processing for the benefit of others.
