I have an alesis multimix 8 usb 2.0 but I can’t record more than one track simultaniously. Audacity recognizes the first imput but the second does not record. Is there a setting that I need to change?
I assume you are on Windows so moved your post here.

using audacity with alesis usb 2.0 when I add another track (play an instrument), sometimes the tracks that are already playing re-record onto the new track. Is there a setting to cure this…quite frustrating because it does’nt always do this.
Please post in the board for your operating system, so we can help you more easily (see the big pink notice at the top of this page).
Also we cannot see over your shoulder so you need to tell us much more about your Audacity playback and recording settings, and Multimix settings and connections.
The usual reason that you end up recording the original track on a mixer is that you are connecting (or sending) the Control Room output to your computer. Connect or send the “CD/Tape out”, “Main output” or “Alt 3/4” output from the mixer to your computer instead.
Also, wear headphones, so that microphones cannot pick up audio from computer speakers. I am sorry if that is an obvious statement, but we have to make it as you have not stated you are using headphones.

I have the alesis running into the computer through the usb connection. I don’t have 1/4 inch inputs on the PC. but like I said before. The track/tracks that I’m monitoring “SOMETIMES” records onto the overdub track as I’m performing the overdub. Hence: NO SEPERATION. Why “Sometimes” and “Sometimes” it works fine? like it has a mind of its own.
Like I said, we cannot see over your shoulder. You can try here http://community.alesis.com/alesis .
