MP3

I have been using Audacity !.2.6 for quite a while now and find it very useful and easy to use.
Can someone tell me why I can import an MP3 file and edit it, but cannot export or save the edited file. Perhaps I’m missing something or is it just not possible. Thanks Roy W

Possibly not installed the lame encoder ? … http://audacityteam.org/help/faq?s=install&item=lame-mp3

Thanks Trebor, I didn’t realise it needed an MP3 encoder to encode an MP3 file. Anyhow it works fine now, thanks again. Roy W

It’s basically just down to licensing restrictions - Aaudacity would have to pay Steinberg (who owns the IPR) to actually directly build MP3 encoding in to the software. And the amount would not be insignificant amounts of dollars … So we allput up with this slightly round about way of doing things.

Steinberg own the copyright to “ASIO”.
