MP3: I can't delete the selected area [SOLVED]

Hello,

I work with Windows Vista Home Premium and downloaded audacity 2.1.1 and downloaded the exe version. The menu is in Dutch, so please excuse if the mentions of the menu are a bit on the creative side

I wanted to delete the first and last part of an MP3 file. I imported a test version mp3 and used the manual. It worked perfectly.
Then I imported the real file as MP3. I put the cursor at the position I wanted, selected the area I wanted to delete, it became dark blue and then selected edit, special edit, delete and …nothing. I tried again with different ways of selecting the area but I just can’t delete the selected area.

I wonder if it’s the dll that seems to be missing in the log-file?

Please advise, Jacquelien

Thank you for the log and good information.

Probably you are still playing or paused and just need to press the yellow Stop button. See http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_editing.html#grayed.

The missing DLL’s are not a problem, but if you install FFmpeg it will let you import and export more audio formats. See http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_opening_and_saving_files.html#foreign.

However do be aware you are degrading the MP3 by using Audacity to trim it. There are other tools that can edit it directly without re-encoding it, thereby preserving whatever quality it has now: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/MP3#re-encode.
