more like a mic help

Help me with my external mic?

this mic is sonic gear’s dm 120 mic, i plugged it right, but all it does record is just the surrounding fan and wind sounds. it’s not catching my voice at all
also, i checked the recording device control panel, made sure it’s not muted, maxed the volume, tinker with the boost, still no luck.
i tried speaking through it, and im not really that distant to the mic at all, another fail. it’s not just this one mic, i tried other types as well, so i dont think this one is broken at all.

did i messed up on something or is it my laptop?
any ideas on how to fix this?
thanks.

Like the comment on Yahoo Answers, make sure you’re recording from the Sonic Gear microphone and not the microphone in your laptop. Is it selected in:

Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Devices > Recording.

That’s not a USB microphone, is it? You should be plugged into the Mic-In of your soundcard or laptop.

From there, you’re on your own. I’m not a Windows elf.

yep.
i already set it to the sonic gear mic…
its actually recording something, but its not recording my voice.

Try this.

Scratch the microphone with your fingernail while you’re recording. Then scratch around your laptop – around the keyboard and around the screen and see if the scratching sound doesn’t get a lot louder.

This microphone is an aggressive end-fire design. You should be talking directly into the end. If you talk into the side or the back, it won’t do anything.

I’ve done that, but it really doesn’t change anything. I’m sorry…
I think it’s broken or something.

Thanks for the help, anyways
