I’m using Windows 7 and Audacity2.3.3
I have a mono tape which I am trying to bring into Audacity. It’s showing up on one channel only. I’ve tried to switch to Mono with no luck.

There is a little drop-down arrow to the left of the waveform. Click that and select Split to Mono. That gives you two mono tracks that you can edit independently.
Now you’ll see a drop-down arrow for each track and to the left of that there is an “X”. Click the X on the silent channel to delete it.
When you export you’ll get a true-mono file and it will play through both speakers.
Are you plugged into the “microphone” input on your computer? That’s “wrong” for a line or headphone output and it’s usually mono and you’ll get the left channel if you record in stereo.
Did you select 1 (Mono) recording channel?
Or, a normal mono tape will play through both speakers (and it should record into both stereo channels) so there is something wrong with your connections, or you have a stereo recording with one dead/silent channel.
