Monitoring to record

I’ve not found an answer in the forum. I’m using 3.7.7. I’m recording from a Audia technica TT and all is well except for one annoying thing. Is there a way to monitor the track, without recording in order to START recording at a certain point? Right now i cannot hear any of the track until I start recording.

Need idiot proof way to record from Audio Technica turntable

A USB turntable, I assume? Make sure you’ve selected the USB device as your Audacity Recoding Device, Check the recording volume slider which is now “hidden” under the recording meters. Check the line/phono switch on the turntable. It may need to be set to “line”. Check your Windows Permissions/Privacy Settings to make sure Audacity is allowed to use the turntable. You can also check Listen To This Device to make sure Windows is getting a signal.

You are correct, USB Turntable, set to Line position. I’m able to record and listen while recording, but I cannot monitor while the turntable is playing but I am not recording. I’ve got to be missing something…. Probably something simple. I’m adding this in as well, What I think I am trying to do is be able to cue in to a spot on the album that I want to start recording from.
