Makes me wonder how do Audacity folks make any money off it.

Until about 2 years ago, Audacity was funded by donations plus the revenue from a couple of adverts on the website. Then muse group (the owners of Ultimate Guitar) acquired Audacity. Muse group have not published their business model, but it is heavily involved with publishing and licensing (Hal Leonard Combines with Muse Group: What You Need To Know — Muse Group)
