Mixing tracks

Hi folks

Here’s my problem. I have a stereo music track and I’ve used the envelope tool to lower the music level to accomodate a voiceover.
I’ve recorded the voiceover track and now I want to mix the two into one mono music track with voiceover. Can anyone explain how I do this?

  1. “Ctrl + A” to select all tracks.
  2. “Tracks menu > Mix > Mix and Render”
  3. If the mixed track is stereo, then “Tracks > Mix > Mix Stereo down to Mono”
  4. With the track selected, “Effect menu > Normalize”. The ideal normalization level depends on the desired export format. For WAV, I’d recommend -1 or -2 dB. For MP3 I’d recommend -2 or -3 dB.

Note that if this if for publication, publishing houses usually specify the format they require, including the normalization (peak) level.
