mixer + Audacity 2.1.2 on computer

Greetings…new to this forum and looking for help for my set up. New Lenovo all-in-one computer (windows 10) trying to record line in from a mixer at my church. We have mics running to the mixer and then into the computer via 1/8 jack on line in jack in an older computer and works just fine. My dilemma is my new computer has 1 input for headsets. Which I bought suspecting it may not work…the sales guy at Bestb_y told me it would work just fine. As I run a test at home, I plug in my ipad to the headset jack into the computer only to find that the open microphone records fine, but it doesn’t record through the input from my ipad source ( as it would if plugged into the mixer) I can record via audacity, only I need the line in and I can’t seem to get there. Is this an issue with the single input headset line? Should I get a new computer that has a separate line in instead of the combination headset mic? I’ve tried turning off the mic and speakers on the Lenovo, but still doesn’t capture audio from the ipad source. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

You can get an adapter for less than $10 that converts from the new 1 plug TRRS , into separate mic & headphone sockets, like old computers …

Even with that adaptor, a TRRS input is a mic meant for computer mics (without the adaptor, for headset mics). It is totally unsuitable for stereo recording from a mixer or iPad.

Thanks for the reply. So this adaptor should allow me to record to my computer even though it may not be in stereo? Mono would be just fine for my needs.

I’ve re-read the question : ignore my previous post.
You need a line-in socket on the computer to take the line-out from a mixer.
If the computer doesn’t have a line-in, then you need a different gadget :
one which has line-in socket(s) and plugs into the USB socket,
this type of thing … https://www.google.com/search?site=&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1280&bih=687&q=Behringer+UCA202

It will overload/distort with any signal from a mixer.

UCA 202 isn’t the only device, though it is our usual recommendation. Here are some others: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Sound_Devices_and_Interfaces#USB_Interfaces.
