Microfone volume won't change

Hi there! Since my cheap notebook has no entrance for a microphone, I’m using a mobile app (WO mic), and my smartphone is connected to my notebook through usb. Unfortunatelly, on Audacity, the recording volume won’t change, probably because I’m using a usb instead of a regular jack.
My question: what can I do to lower the recording volume? Maybe I can use one of these https://www.amazon.it/AGPTEK-Condensatore-Omnidirezionale-Adattatore-Registratore/dp/B01G16LSVQ/ref=sr_1_7?__mk_it_IT=ÅMÅŽÕÑ&crid=3DGB2KSBFUP2Q&keywords=microfono+per+pc&qid=1555070332&s=gateway&sprefix=microfono+per+p%2Caps%2C250&sr=8-7 between my microphone and my smartphone? Do you know of any app that would allow me to control the volume from my phone? Any idea to solve this without spending much, please?

probably because I’m using a usb instead of a regular jack.

Correct. Is it possible to record on your smartphone and lose the cables and computers? Is there a sound recorder app available? The recording app may have a volume control.

Even a video recorder app may work. Audacity will open the sound track from many different video files.

Thank you, but I would really like to use Audacity, not an app on my phone.
I’ve just realized that I posted the wrong link of the volume controller that I thought might work. This is the one: https://www.amazon.it/FOXNOVO-Prolunga-Controllo-Maschio-Femmina/dp/B014XHQSHY/ref=sr_1_17?__mk_it_IT=ÅMÅŽÕÑ&keywords=estensione+controllo+volume&qid=1555081204&s=gateway&sr=8-17 Do you think this can work?

Do you think this can work?

I thought your notebook didn’t have an analog connection. This is an analog controller.

Would I have the same problem if I connect the phone and the notebook through wi-fi or bluetooth, instead of usb?

That’s right, but I’m using an external microphone and I’m plugging it in my phone, so maybe I can plug in that volume controller in between the mic and the phone. My concern is that it’s a controller designed for headphones, not microphones.

Hi there! Since my cheap notebook has no entrance for a microphone, I’m connecting a little microphone (one of those that you clip on your shirt) onto my smartphone, and then onto my notebook, using a mobile app (WO mic) and connecting my phone and my notebook through USB.
Unfortunately, on Audacity, the recording volume won’t change, because I’m using a USB instead of a regular jack, so I’d like a cheap solution to control the volume before it gets to my notebook.
Can you tell me if the volume control in the link below can make it? It’s only designed for headsets, but maybe it works. I remember using headsets as a microphone when I was a kid

Any idea to get around this without spending much will be much appreciated!!!

I’ve merged these topics as both are essentially about the same issue.

What happens if you record using a smartphone app? (directly into the phone). Does that give you a reasonable recording? If not, what’s wrong with it?

What are you trying to record?
