Mic works/not instrument .

Windows 10/behringer umc22/audacity 2.4.2.
I can record and playback the microphone (slot of hsss) , but the guitar records and plays back distant and soft. Like an am radio at the beach. I’ve tried some combinations but nothing is working. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you sure you’re recording from the interface, and not the microphone built into your laptop? Make sure to select the USB interface as your Recording Device

Have you tried “direct monitoring” with headphones plugged into your interface? If you are getting bad sound there, you’ve got a problem on the “analog side”.

You may be due for a scratch test. Make a recording and scratch the microphone and then the microphone on your laptop. Mine is just left of the left-hand shift key.

Yes , I have the recording device set as my interface device. Should all settings be set according to what my interface device is. That’s where It gets a little confusing at times. I have realtek set up also and it also seems to work as my output (headphones)sometimes. I went into my sound control settings and set usb audio device as my default device. I set everything else accordingly on my toolbar. Seems to be working now. Thank you for your advice. I learn a little more each day.
