Just was trying out this program for my first time, seeing how it works. Noticing when I record my mic in stereo that about 90% of the sound is going to the left channel only. Trying to figure out why that is, and if it’s just this program or for everything else in Windows (Skype, Teamspeak, etc). Any ideas?
Also W7 and using newest Audacity from the exe.
Most microphones are mono. Exactly how a mono input is distributed to a stereo track is determined by the sound card driver.
Skype is mono so it’s not an issue there.
To get a mono source to record correctly in Audacity, set the number of channels to “1 (mono)” in the Device Toolbar: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Device_Toolbar
Well Windows only has a stereo option for my mic, so if my mic is mono wouldn’t that also cause my mic to be quiet in those other apps?
Chat software uses mono, so that’s the same as setting Audacity to mono.
