menu options not available?

Hi there. I’m a brand new user to the program.
Honestly, i was just looking for a audio editing program just for editing interviews. Not looking for audio effects etc.
installed version 2.1.0 on a Windows 7(professional) machine
installed the program and am trying to edit an interview - mostly cutting out extraneous parts to condense it down.
am finding that most menu options are greyed out and not available.
specifically, saving and exporting.
really don’t want to lose what I’ve edited so far.
am i missing something?

You are almost certainly in Pause mode rather than Stop mode - press the Stop button and then try editing.

There is a proposal in the Audacity for editing to take place even when paused: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Proposal_Action_edits_when_in_Pause_mode

really don’t want to lose what I’ve edited so far.

Can we assume you’re editing a copy of the show? If the whole world turns to trash, you can start over from the original?
