I am new here. windows 7 with Audacity 2.1. I have recorded complete LP and cleared clicks. I have tried to find silence between cuts and moved sensitivity up to -40 db but it doesn’t mark anything to break it into tracks. I manually made marks and typed in a name and I couldn’t save it . What am I missing?
I don’t know… I’ve always done it manually… You can select/highlight the song, then File → Export Selected Audio. …I’d probably be halfway through the album in the time it took me to write this post.
When I do it I don’t get too precise about where I make the cut… Just somewhere around the middle of the silence… Then I re-open the individual files to trim-off the leading silence and maybe add or subtract some trailing silence. (And, I mute or fast-fade that trailing silence to dead-silence.)

You do know that a smaller negative number is more sensitive, right? i.e. -20dB is more likely to find silence than -60dB. If you haven’t completely removed the background noise between tracks, the noise may be greater than -40dB. (Greater-than being a smaller negative number.)
Do you mean Silence Finder? With that tool you reduce (move left) the slider for “Treat audio below this level as silence” to find more silences, so that the number you see in the box is a lower negative number.
You’re missing giving us the error message you saw or telling us what exactly happened. You can’t use these characters in a label name or the name of a file:
