Make Mono Song Stereo ("Stereoize")

I am currently using Audacity v3.6.4 on 64-bit Windows 11 Home, installed on a Dell Inspiron 3030.

A previous version of Audacity had a plug-in that would enable you to “stereo-ize” mono songs – that is, to convert a mono recording to a (simulated) stereo recording (provided, of course, that the recording was in dual-track, i.e., a stereo track of the mono recording).

I seem to recall that the plug-in had two main settings, one for the stereo width, and the other for some other value (depth?) that I don’t remember.

Is there any such plug-in available for this version of Audacity? Or, failing that, is there an alternative?

Any assistance would be appreciated; thanks.

If you install it it may end up in the effect menu under “n/a”.

Pseudo-Stereo

Thank you!!! THAT was the name I remember for it!!! I’ve downloaded & installed it. Thanks!

For the benefit of others, you can do much the same thing manually:

  1. If necessary, convert your mono track to a stero one.
  2. Split the stereo track.
  3. Select one or the other track; I happen to prefer the left one.
  4. Move to the very start of that track.
  5. Select “Generate,” and then “Silence.”
  6. Select a tiny interval – 0.003 seconds is good. Warning! Less is more! It’s much too easy to make the delay so long as to be easily noticed.
  7. In the track menu, select “Make Stero Track” (this un-does your track split).
  8. Audacity will toss a strange, mostly incomprehensible, and vaguely worrying error message in you face. You can safely ignore this and proceed.
  9. Preview you new, now-stereo track – and don’t forget to export it if you like it!

Voxego Stereo TouchTouch

Seem to exclude WAV and MP3, which is what I work with.

Wider

Sounds interesting, but I don’t understand it.

Again, thank you for your prompt and informative reply!

Voxengo stereo touch, Ozone imager, & Wider are free VST plugins which work in Audacity in realtime …
