MacBook Pro says my “security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers”
I can’t launch audacity even though I dragged a copy to my applications folder.
This after I just dealt with Apple store staff who told me they do not carry the audio input cable I bought there.
Every time I give Apple the benefit of the doubt they never fail to disappoint.

Said the recent Windows convert.
I believe that’s a Mountain Lion system setting. There’s a way to work around the security settings, and any second I’ll find it…
…Here it is.
Apple (upper left) > System Preferences > Security
Open the Security System Preferences panel and check the box “Allow Applications load from … Anywhere”. It defaults to AppStore and identified developers only.
Note that this increases the level of risk to you even if it reduces the inconvenience.
The other approach is to make the choice to launch applications that are not signed or not from Mac App Store on an application-by-application basis. To do this:
Open Finder
Right-click or control-click on the application you want to launch
Choose “Open”
In the dialogue box that appears, choose “Open”.
You will then be able to launch the program normally on subsequent occasions.
