Mac system 10.9.5 won't let me start Audacity 2.0.6

When I double click on the icon for Audacity 2.0.6, the Mac system 10.9.5 opens a window saying that it cannot verify the program and refuses to let me launch it. The window includes text that the program was downloaded from fosshub and therefore (apparently) is unreliable. Doesn’t work even with administrator login. Work around?

FossHub is now one of the official download partners.

The correct place to download Audacity for Mac OS X is: http://audacityteam.org/download/mac
Please see the instructions on that page to resolve your issue.

I went to sourceforge.net, downloaded Audacity 2.0.6, but the system still won’t let me run it. The complaint is like last time that the developer cannot be verified. I was successful in reviving 2.0.5 from TimeMachine and will run that until a fix is available. Thanks.

Steve gave a link to Audacity ® | Download for Mac OS not to sourceforge.net because If you go to Audacity ® | Download for Mac OS there are instructions on how to install Audacity correctly and how to work round the “unidentified developer” issue.

The same instructions are also in Install.txt that is in the same folder as Audacity.app.

So the drill is to go to Audacity ® | Download for Mac OS, download the DMG, mount the DMG, then in the DMG window, drag the “Audacity” folder to the shortcut folder for /Applications.

Now you have the new Audacity 2.0.6 in /Applications. To make it run, CONTROL-click or right-click over Audacity.app, and choose “Open”. In the window that appears, choose “Open”.

We already tried to fix this by signing Audacity.app on Mavericks. On some 10.9.5 Macs, this makes the Mac report Audacity as “damaged” which is much worse. So it’s actually an Apple bug.
