The manufacturer of my A/D converter is as baffled as I am, so I thought I’d ask all of you.
The meters on the face of the converter show that it is receiving a signal. My MacBook Pro “sees” the converter as the audio source. So do Audacity and QuickTime. And yet, the recordings are blank. The input is effectively muted.
I made recordings for months with this same setup. Everything worked fine until a few days ago.
I’m using a Dangerous Music CONVERT-AD+ into a MacBook Pro running MacOS Sequoia 15.7.3 and Audacity 3.7.7. Ideas?
Problem solved! There was a mismatch between the input sample rate in Audio MIDI Setup (48k) and the output sample rate of the A/D converter and input sample rate of Audacity (both 192k). When I changed the input sample rate in Audio MIDI Setup to 192k, recording was normal again.
I never touched Audio MIDI Setup, so I can’t imagine why this happened. I’ve noticed before that the MacBook Pro and its apps sometimes change settings on their own, without warning. Then I have to figure out what’s wrong. I guess it’s a case of our digital masters keeping us on our toes.
