I need to make professional recordings (voice only) which will be sold online and I’m looking to create excellent quality. I have used GarageBand before but now wish to use Audacity as I understand it it much better!
My question: Is it possible to install Audacity 2.1.2 on my mac with 10.11.6?
I’ve tried with both the DMG and ZIP files but when I test exporting a file (I’ve only tried MP3 at this stage) (I’m also new to voice recordings) and I go to get the LAME, save to the mac etc the file will still not export. I’ve just deleted everything off the mac to start over from scratch again but I’m tearing my hair out now.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received!

I don’t know about Much Better. I suspect we can both perform a simple voice recording with no problem. Audacity probably has much better post production tools, filters and effects. However Audacity is free, so we can’t “hide” software and products inside like other software can.
For one example, right out of the box, Audacity can’t make an MP3. You have to download and install the separate Lame software. Is that where you’re stuck?
It is recommended you Export your works as WAV (Microsoft) as your Production Master works before you make the MP3 anyway. WAV is a perfect sound format. MP3 isn’t. WAV is the Audacity default.
We would just as soon ACX didn’t require MP3 for submissions, but it’s their company.

Yes. That’s the machine I’m typing on right now.
I would recommend recording a test and exporting it as WAV before you do the MP3 thing. There’s no shortage of tricks and pitfalls just to get your voice that far.
DO NOT read a whole novel and then try to “fix it” in post production processing. Those jobs are a nightmare.

No other products planned, I just need to record voice only (in great quality) for guided meditations, hypnosis recordings etc which people will buy online.

If you are still stuck about installing LAME, see this link http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/faq_installation_and_plug_ins.html#maclame_zip.
If you need more help, please give us the exact error message word for word when the export does not work. When you export, change the export directory to your Music folder or somewhere else in your user space.
You can also export as WAV and convert to MP3 in iTunes, if you now have your finished product in Audacity.
