Low volume creating MP3 file from vinyl record

I’ve tried everything but no joy in creating an MP3 file with proper audio volume. I’m wondering about device settings?

In preferences-devices-recording device, its default setting is ‘built-in microphone’ when surely it needs to be USB AUDIO CODEC2, but it won’t allow me to do this.

Any guidance much appreciated.

What sort of record player are you using?
I assume that it is connected to your computer via USB lead?

In what way will it “not allow” you to select USB AUDIO CODEC2?

Be sure to start Audacity after plugging in your device; otherwise, do Transport > Rescan Audio Devices.
