Very often, after I make a recording in Audacity, a long “tail” … a period of silence lasting from several seconds to more than a minute … will be created inadvertently. This seems to happen most frequently after making an insert edit into the recording, but sometimes it seems to happen randomly. The “tail” does not appear until after the recording has been saved and reopened. What causes this and how do I stop if from happening in the first place? Thanks.
Of what? When you start experiencing “magic” symptoms such as this, it’s good to know as much about the show as possible.
Conspiracy Theory has it you are not the only user on your machine. The Other Service is extending the recording time to make sure they have all your work recorded so they can reference it later.
Interrupting control services isn’t easy.
When was the last time you did that thorough virus scan that runs all night? Does it still do it if you completely disconnect from the internet (Pull the RJ-11 cable) during recording?

Thanks, Koz. I’ll give it some thought.
