Listing all my Music

I want to label all my tracks Name of Song and The Artist how do I do this I record from Vinyl and CDs from my Hifi to my Laptop. Iam using Widows 7 Home Premium I want to put the songs onto Itunes and Windows Media Player then burn them onto CD or MP3 Player? also how do I put the Artwork ie the Vinyl record sleeve or Cd sleave onto Itunes or Windows Media Player.

Dave.

For a start, why on earth are you “recording” CDs when you can just import them straight into iTunes

For vinyl see this set of tutorials: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tutorial_copying_tapes_lps_or_minidiscs_to_cd.html

You should find this one particularly useful: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/sample_workflow_for_exporting_to_itunes.html

If you record you LPs with the tracks in their original order thene when you load them into iTunes then there is a fair chance the the Garcenote CDDB datbase will recognize the recording and supply the metadata for you - for those unrecognized ones you can tweak the metadata manually in iTunes (its easeier doing it there than fiddling around with metadat in Audacity IMHO).

For album art for the vinyl you should be able to “borrow” much of it from Amazon (right-click on the image and “Save Picture As…”), or you can take your own digital photos of the album covers. Then you can use iTunes to add the artwork.

Thanks The Particular CD would not work in my Laptop but worked in on my Hi Fi also it wouls bring out Hi Fi Sound from the Hi Fi The Gacenote I dont think it is on my Laptop how do I download it and Put it on Audacity.

Wheres Metadata in Itunes?

Dave.

Sorry I don’t use iTunes.
Help for iTunes is here: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/

That happens when you get a CD with “copy protection” encoded on it. Some releases a while back had this put on to try to circumvent piracy - byt the outcry from consumers was so great that the record companies stopped doing it (it didn’t thwart piracy anyway …)
My Cerys Matthews CD has copy protection, so like you I had to hook up the CD deck to my computer to get it recorded so I could get it into my iTunes library.

No the Gracenote CDDB database lives out there in a cloud on t’interweb. When you have iTunes running and you load a CD then iTunes then goes off to interrogate Gracenote to see if it knows what the recording is and it it’s recognized Gracenote supplies the metadata to iTunes for you.

WC

Right click on any song in your iTunes library and select Get Info from the pop-up menu and than click on the Info tab.

You can also select a set of songs, typically all the tracks from a particular album, and right click > Get Info to see/change the metadata that is common to those tracks.

This is also where you can add album art - under the Artwork tab for a single song - or on the Info tab for a whole album.

If you have a “recognized” Cd than you should be able to as iTunes to get the artwork for you - select all the tracks of the album and from the Advanced drop down menu select Get Album Artwork.

How do I get Gracenote on Audacity on its own?

Dave.

Thanks I will look at it soon.

Dave.

Sorry to use Private messages. How do i list the Name of the Song and Artist and Download the Artwork to Itunes or Windows Media player Iam recording Vinyl from my Hi Fi to my Laptop.

Dave.

How do I put Gracenote onto Audacity?

Dave.

You don’t. Audacity has no support for metadata lookup. Do you want to vote for that? It may not be simple, because some of the developers think there are security implications in Audacity accepting incoming data from the internet.

There could also be licensing/patent issues as the Gracenote database is not open source.
Musicbrainz offers an open source alternative, but as it is based on FreeDB, which Gracenote claim violates their patents, there may still be issues.

I already explained on the -users list that Audacity doesn’t support artwork in audio files.

Waxcylinder has already explained about iTunes see here Listing all my Music - #7 by waxcylinder . See here for other ways to add artwork to iTunes How to Add Album Art in iTunes & Music .

Where do you want to list the name of the song and artist? Have you done this yet in Audacity? Are you following this Tutorial for Audacity Audacity Manual ?
