Line-in recordings through interface

Hey, I’ve been using audacity with my Scarlett 18i6 for a while now, and have had no problem recording with it. Thing is, I’ve only ever used microphones (xlr) to record, which the computer and audacity have picked up fine through my interface. But recently I tried recording directly by plugging my guitar and bass into the line inputs, which the interface and it’s digital mixer pick up fine. However, for some reason this signal doesn’t reach the computer/audacity, and I don’t understand why this is. There’s nothing wrong with the cable and the computer recognises the Scarlett fine (since I had been recording through it with mics previously). I’m new to this kind of recording, and am wondering if there’s something obvious that I’ve missed. Any help would be awesome,
Thanks!

I need to sit and read the instructions, but this interface has a four-channel output and unless you sacrifice the appropriate small furry animals, Audacity may only see the first two. If the unit is placing the guitar on 3 and 4, Audacity will not see it.

To keep that high channel count under control, Focusrite includes their acclaimed MixControl software for ultimate flexibility. Create up to six separate mono mixes or three stereo mixes, each routable to any of the Scarlett 18i6’s outputs. Save your mixes for instant recall later on. Re-route your signal path without having to replug your whole studio. The Scarlett 18i6 was built with flexibility in mind.

There it is. Go for it.

Thanks for the reply! I have no idea how to route the 3rd and 4th inputs to 1 and 2, have any ideas? I’ll keep trying, and thanks again for your help.

Audio set-up in your DAW
The Scarlett 18i6 is compatible with any DAW that uses ASIO drivers on Windows, and any DAW that uses Core Audio on Mac.
It should be noted that the DAW software may not automatically switch the device it uses to input and output audio.
To enable Scarlett 18i6 in the DAW software, ensure that ‘Scarlett USB ’ is selected as the ASIO driver (Windows) or Core Audio
driver (Mac) in the DAW’s audio set-up page.

Unfortunately, due to licensing restrictions, Audacity can not be distributed with ASIO support. This means that when you use the Scarlett 18i6 with Audacity you will probably only have basic functionality available (through the standard Windows drivers). For full functionality of the Scarlett 18i6 you will need to use recording software that supports ASIO, such as Reaper, Sonar, Cubase…

Hmmm, well it’s worked fine with the xlr inputs, so am hoping it will be fine with the line inputs. Plus, I have exactly the same problem on Reaper… I’m going with what Koz says in that I need to route the line inputs to 1&2. Thing is the computer doesn’t even recognise 3&4 :S
