left audio louder than right.

Hey there, I’m a member of the student run radio station at the university of nevada reno.
We record all of our shows with audacity and a few weeks ago we ecountered a problem that nobody is having luck fixing.

Whenever one of our DJs uses an auxiliary cord to plug in to their phone or laptop the left audio level is significantly louder than the right, to the point that the audio becomes distorted and cracks.

I’m not very technical, but hopefully this picture sheds some light on the problem.

Thanks in advance for any help. We Use windows seven by the way.

There is no distortion visible in the waveform. There is good dynamic range and no flat topped peaks.

Please be much more detailed about what inputs and outputs you are connecting where. If you were using a laptop’s sole audio input and connecting a strong line level input to it, I would expect to see something like you show, but the input in your picture appears to be http://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-audio/echo-mia-midi-digital-audio-and-midi-card.

So again you need to say more about your connections.
