Launching Audacity removes my computer speaker setup

Hello. For some time, Audacity on my computer has hung after recording audio. Now, upon launch, the program hangs and removes my speaker setup when it finally launches.I’m running Windows 10, and I’m pretty sure the Audacity version is 2.3.1, or something like that. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be? Is it a driver issue?

When Audacity is launched, it scans the sound system to see what devices are available, and then creates a connection to the last used device (if available), or the system default device (if the last used device is not available). Some (but not all) device drivers respond to this by creating a new connection with default (re-set) settings. As far as I’m aware, this is just a “quirk” (the behaviour chosen by the device driver developers) of some device drivers.
