Issues with version 3.2.4

Hello all,

First time post here but have been using Audacity for some time. Just wanted to post about some issues i had on 3.2.4.

  1. After upgrading from an earlier version (sorry don’t recall which), 3.2.4 starting having gaps while recording. Seems some interrupt would get in the way, i believe the meters would even show input, but the result would be some 2-3 second gaps while trying to record some vinyl. I thought for sure it was a system thing, but after a few attempts with OS, I reverted back to 3.1.3 and things are fine again.

  2. File sizes. I have experienced a few times where the working file size increases drastically for no reason that i can tell. I ripped a double album, initially about 3.8GB in size. After working with it but not really changing anything. Saving the file which i thought would release any edits. but i ended up with the same file, same length of audio, but now its like 11.0GB. i have read of others experiencing this.

  3. those damn sliders being changed in the 3.2 versions really messes me up. I used to click on the mic input to reset the peaks, not it changes the actual input level of the mic. liked it better seperate in 3.1.3. Not really an issue i guess.

Just trying to help, if any details would help let me know

I assume that’s your AUP3 file? Once you export to WAV, FLAC, or MP3, etc., everything should be “normal”. And you shouldn’t need to save your project file forever…

I never make an Audacity project with something simple like digitizing vinyl… I just work with WAV files, and then sometimes make an MP3 in the end.

I’m glad that reverting to 3.1.3 has you working again.

As it turns out copying a small selection of a much larger clip into a different Audacity project can cause this situation. The Audacity developers are working and hope to have a solution in 3.3, due 1st quarter.

Thanks all. Yes, I was referring to the aup3 file. I understand your idea of keeping just the wav, but the aup3 file is what i like to keep. storage is cheap these days.

Also note that smart clips can retain old audio information that is no longer needed. A Mix and Render on a single track can release the related storage.
