Issue with large file

Hello,

I recorded over 26 hours worth of DJ sets for a festival stage and saved them as an audacity project file. Now I have come to edit them down into their 1.5 hour segments but am having issues opening the file.

I am getting this screen;

If I continue without deleting the time elapses for a bit and then the file opens but there is no waveform present.

I am using 2.0.5.

Can anyone shed any light on the situation and offer a solution?

Thank you for your time.

Kind regards.

You are using an obsolete version of Audacity that was limited to 13.5 hours of audio per track at 44100 Hz.

Don’t delete any of the orphan files. Choose the option to close the project with no further changes.

Install Audacity 2.1.1 from http://audacityteam.org/download/windows. Then try opening the project in 2.1.1.

Hi Gale,

Thanks for the reply.

I have updated to the latest but an still having the same issue, do you have any more suggestions.

Kind regards,
Matt

Open the project in 2.1.1 and attach the log therefrom (Help > Show Log…). Please see here for how to attach files: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/how-to-attach-files-to-forum-posts/24026/1

If we cannot figure why 2.1.1 cannot understand the project then as long as you never edited the recording it is possible to make a number of WAV files from the recorded data. See Recovering crashes manually. In your case you would need to make about 30 WAV files (recovering four “d” folders at a time).

The log file is coming up blank.

I will try to manually recover the file.

Thanks for your help.

The log should not be completely empty.

Before embarking on recovery, you might want to drag some of the AU files into Audacity and make sure they contain your content.
