Is this audio recoverable?

Hi – Hoping I can salvage an audio file I was recording as a mono track. I finished recording it in an as-yet-unsaved Project, and then accidentally Xed out the track without closing Audacity. Couldn’t figure out how to get the track back and Undo didn’t work. I saw in one of the Audacity folders there was a temporary project file that had the size and creation time I would expect of a file containing that data. I changed the weird extension to *.AUP and the project opened up successfully but still with no track.

So that’s where I’m at: I have a Project file that otherwise looks like an uncompressed audio file recorded when I recorded it (1+ GB), but with no visible tracks. Doesn’t this suggest the actual audio still exists in there somewhere? If so, any way to recover it? I saw one suggestion involving using the filelog online but unfortunately I’ve since closed the original instance of Audacity and that doesn’t seem to help.

It would be very helpful if I could recover this – thank you so much!

There is a caution here. When the show comes back, it may not be at the same display that you used. My test 30 minute show came back only displaying the first 12 minutes. Zoom > Fit To Width brought the whole show back.

Also fair warning, once you close Audacity all the UNDO, Cache, Temp Memory, etc. goes away.

Which Audacity and how long was the show? Stereo?

Did you open an account in audio.com for file transfer ease?
