If I have long files with multiple songs, is there anyway to cut the songs out without re-exporting.
I have been cutting ogg files and re-exporting them as ogg, and I didn’t notice any difference.
Then, I wanted to get some songs to run on an MP3 player, and it edited out quite a lot of material that was quiet but important. Even when I set the bitrate to the highest variable quality.
This is expected. MP3 uses psychoacoustic models to discard or reduce precision of components less audible to human hearing. And if you were encoding MP3 from OGG, you had at least two sets of encoding losses.
There are some direct-editing MP3 tools in the same link above.
