Is there a way to make Audacity prompt to save before closing unsaved recording?

After making a recording, I inadvertently clicked the box to close the recording. It closed with no prompt to save it. Too late, I realized I’d just lost the recording.

Is there a way to make Audacity prompt to save an unsaved recording before closing it?

Audacity already prompts to save before closing if there are any unsaved changes.

I tested just now. I opened Audacity, clicked the record button, made a short recording, then clicked the stop recording button.

Then I clicked the little “x” box at the upper left of the recording window to close it. The recording window closed with no prompt.

Then I exited Audacity using the “x” box at the upper right corner of its window. It closed with no prompt.

I’m using Audacity for Windows 3.7.3.

I’m using it at our public library’s makerspace sound recording room, so it’s possible someone has changed a setting from the defaults.

Do you mean the “X” in the top corner of the audio track.

If so, then you are correct that there is no warning when deleting a track, but you can “Undo” the track deletion:
“Edit menu > Undo (Ctrl + Z)”
