Hello all. I am trying to record some covers for YT and I have run into one issue…I sing better a capella So is there a way for me to combine my a capella track with the karaoke or offvocal in Audacity? Or do I have to record it as one?
You can totally do them separate, but rhythm is going to be a serious problem.
I would set up the system for overdubbing, but instead of the musical backing track, put in a Metronome track.
Tick, Tick, Tick, Tick, “The itsy, bitsy spider, went up the water spout.”
Make sure the Metronome track has exactly the same timing as the music track. If you miss lip sync by a very little, there are Audacity tools to smooch things together later.
Do you have perfect pitch? There won’t be a real-time music bed to pitch to.

You don’t have to do it that way. I bet your smartphone has an app to generate ticks. Play that into your headphones or earbuds while you’re making a straight, plain voice recording in Audacity. Then edit the voice track against the music bed. That’s not the simplest thing to do, but it’s completely within Audacity’s tools.
Koz
