Installing Chris's Compressor...

I’ve attempted the download for Chris’s Compressor four times now, and I continue to face the same issue: the file is downloading as a document, and not (as far as I can tell) as a plug-in. When I attempt to open the plug-in as a standalone, I get a “what application would you like to use to open this file?” prompt (which is a question I don’t think I should see, nor is it one that I know how to answer); and when I attempt to move the file into the plug-ins folder in Audacity itself, it doesn’t show up in the Effects drop-down before or after I close and re-open Audacity.

Any thoughts as to what I’m doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Chris’s Compressor is a “Nyquist plug-in”. This type of plug-in is just a plain text file which provides instructions for the Nyquist interpreter that is built into Audacity.
To install this, or any other Nyquist plug-in, see here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Download_Nyquist_Plug-ins#download

Chris has one other wacky thing it does. It doesn’t say “Chris” when you use it.

Effect > (scroll way down) Compress dynamics.

See Attached.

I have only ever used it to process live voice radio shows. I either use it with the standard settings, or change the first setting “Compress ratio” from 0.5 to 0.77. That’s the setting that sounds like my local FM station compression and makes it so I can enjoy shows in the noisy car.
