I’m gonna explain this as best as I can but it’s very confusing. Basically I got a new microphone, audio technica at2020, and a new audio interface, CAD CX2, and it hasn’t been working properly. I use audacity to record audio, and fl studio to listen to the vocals and mix them. When I have both audacity and fl studio open, I’m not able to record on audacity. The recording line doesn’t start moving and there are no waves forming. If fl studio is closed I can get it to work, but when it is open I can’t. So basically either I only can get the fl studio playback to work, or the audacity recording to work, but never at the same time. I have the mic plugged into the interface with an XLR cable and the interface is plugged into my PC with the given USB. My computer detects the interface and I have it set as both my input and output in the computer settings and audacity settings.
Any reason you’re not using Audacity to both play the backing track and record the new performance? That’s called overdubbing and there’s a manual section on how.

I can imagine FL Studio and Audacity having a bloody fist-fight in there to figure out who’s going to control the computer’s sound connections. They’re both going to try and they can’t both win.
