Input Device Settings Error

I just digitized a tape to a Mac without a problem. I then started a second tape and received an error message:

Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rates.

  1. I did not change any settings after the first tape.
  2. I don’t have a clue what this means.
  3. The audacity help menu is of no help.
  4. This is not the first time this has occurred. The last time I closed audacity and reopened. Do I have to do this every time I use the program?

OSX 10.12
Audacity 2.1.2

1)The Help manu has a link to the Manual

  1. The Manual has prominent links for FAQs (Frequently Aked Questions)

  2. in those FAQa=s at the bottom there is an Errors sectio

  3. In that Errors section you will find an entry for your error …

WC

That is the first place I looked. What I saw were exactly 3 errors listed and none of them addressed this issue. I will look again. Thank you.

If it’s the same USB device you’re using in Recording Speed try disconnecting the device from the computer and reconnecting it tightly (or try another USB cable if you have that option). The error is presumably happening because Audacity thinks the connection to the device has been lost.

You can Transport > Rescan Audio Devices instead of restarting Audacity.

Here is the link FAQ:Errors - Audacity Manual.

Greetings, Gale, thank you again.

It is the same device and this did the trick:

Transport > Rescan Audio Devices

BTW, I do not know how I navigated to the manual the first time, but only 3 error messages appeared under FAQs, this not being one of them.

The second time, at your suggestion, this Error message was at the top of list and contained the answer you also provided.
