Initial setup

I installed on a Windows 7 PC and it would not work. It had no input. The first drop down window shows “MME” and “Windows Direct”. Neither lets me record.
The next Drop Down shows “Primary Sound Driver” and Speakers(SoundMax). NO combimation works

Win 7 sucks in many ways, so I installed on an XP PC. Now the Drop Down windows are totally blank. I have no options.

Any help with either PC will be appreciated

Look in the Windows Sound Control Panel and ensure that there is a recording input that is enabled.

Great Start! Nothing was selected. My choices were Microphone and rear input. I selected rear input. Audacity still does not work, but I now have Primary Sound Capture in addition to Rear Input and Microphone on my drop down menu.

In what way does it “not work”?
What are you trying to record?
What happens?

When I play an MP3 file and click the Audacity Record Button, It records silence. I have selected all possible combinations of the choices offered in the Drop Down Windows.
