Step one. Use Audacity 1.3.12, not Audacity 1.2. 1.2 is very old and no longer supported. It has very basic tools and doesn’t recognize very many sound formats.
Audacity is a terrible converter. Make sure all your music is in the same WAV format before you start editing. You can use http://www.foobar2000.org/ to convert. A good default sound format is 44100, 16-bit, Stereo. You can set Audacity preferences for that, too, so everything is holding hands.
Has this microphone worked somewhere else and doesn’t work here? Is this your first ever podcast? You just took the plastic packaging from the microphone?

I’m assuming a Windows machine. You posted in a part of the forum that doesn’t tell us very much.

I’m fishing for the model and make of the microphone if I missed actually saying that.

Audacity 1.3.12
File menu > Import > Audio
In short, there are no options. If you pull a music file into Audacity and it isn’t happy there, it will play at a funny speed or not play at all. Far better to convert ahead of editing.
