Hi, apologies for the question if I am being stupid - but I want to split a DJ vinyl mix I have done into tracks and then improve volume level slightly. But the software only opens the first 3m16s of the first song and that is all. This software looks like it is going to be perfect for me to record albums to digital and mixes I do, but I can’t start to work as I only have the first 3m16s to see!
There is a 4GB limit for WAV files. (1) But an 80 minute file will only exceed that if it’s “high resolution”. A CD quality WAV is less than 1GB.
If that’s the problem you can Import it as Raw Data. Then you can re-export as FLAC. As far as I know, WAV is the only audio format with a size limit, plus FLAC is (lossless) compression and it will be almost half the size.
When you import as raw data, the file header (the first 44 bytes) will be treated as audio, creating a small glitch (noise). You can zoom-in and edit that out.
(1) The WAV header contains a 32-bit “data size” field so it can only “count to” 4GB. When it tries to count higher it “rolls -over”, loosing the most significant bit and starting-back at zero, making the software “think” there is much less audio data.
P.S.
There is no harm in digitizing to high-resolution (other than larger files) but CD quality (16-bits/44.1kHz) is WAY better than analog vinyl and generally better than human hearing (in proper blind ABX listening tests).
Hi there and thank you so much for responding. The absolute file size being imported is 1.3Gb. As forvthe Audacity file, i have not saved yet. So i don’t think that is the issue. I have just had some issues uploading to Mixcloud and found an issue with the source file so i am going to try another source file.
The problem was the source file clipping the upload during it, and the upload interface cancelling and only giving me 3m16s. Uploading from a different source sorted it!
